About
The Female Gaze is a blog dedicated to watching, pondering, and discussing television from a feminist perspective. It was founded in August of 2011 by someone who isn’t really thrilled about writing summaries of what blogs are about.
About the Authors
Monku-Monku is a Los Angeles-based academic who studies feminism and television (among other things…) because she thinks gossiping and theorizing go hand in hand. Her favorite media include: Bravo reality television, gastronomical nonfiction, romantic movies, documentaries, and cute animal videos. She willingly identifies as biracial-bisexual, despite her sneaking suspicion that she generally passes for totally mainstream. Other interests include: fantasy football, making/eating/deconstructing ethnic food, reclining, social justice movements, low culture, and small fuzzy dogs.
Stephanie is a DC-area native who studied English and works for the government. In her spare time, she’s a (crappy) runner and television enthusiast. She has been told she has no standards for television and it’s true: Full House is okay any time of day. Her DVR is full of Bravo shows, MTV reality, fictional crime shows, and sitcoms. In her spare time, she enjoys hanging out with cats, naps, and trying to figure out a way to become independently wealthy so she can run more and watch more tv.
Meredith lives and works in Los Angeles with a fluffy dog roommate. She’ll watch anything from reality competitions to serial dramas to sit-coms as long as they make her laugh or think. She spends most of her time trying to turn her thoughts into words without imploding.
